The success of these Kenyan coaches marks a significant milestone in the development of swimming in Kenya
A total of 36 swimming coaches have successfully graduated from the recently concluded American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level Three course in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with several advancing to the coveted Level Four leadership certification.
The cohort, who were under the stewardship of esteemed coach Chad Onken, were enrolled in a week-long course that provided them intense learning experience, covering advanced coaching techniques, team management strategies, and performance enhancement methods.
Among the notable graduates was Seahorses Aquatics head coach Rodgers Tobiko, who expressed his excitement saying:
“I am happy to have graduated with Level 4, which is a rare opportunity. I have gained a lot in terms of coaching drills, generating workouts, managing a team, stroke correction, and, of course, how to coach a swimmer to swim faster. I look forward to getting back home and practicing what I have learned."
The former national team swimmer also added that it was his dream to one day coach a swimmer from the grassroots to the Olympic Games.
“I urge Kenya Aquatics leadership to continue providing different courses to our local coaches to improve their quality of coaching, which will eventually elevate the standards of swimming in Kenya," he said.
George Munene, another accomplished graduate who achieved Level 4 certification, also shared his thoughts on the transformative experience.
"Thanks to the Tanzania Swimming Federation for organizing such a great course and providing this opportunity to their Kenyan counterparts. The knowledge and skills we have acquired this week are invaluable. I am confident that this will significantly impact our coaching methods and ultimately benefit our swimmers back home," Munene remarked.
Some of the teams who now benefit from their coaches taking part in the course include: Braeburn, Supermarlins, Seahorses, Potterhouse, Crawford International School, Riara, Loreto Msongari, Nova Pioneer, Sabis International School, Meru Aquatics, St. Christopher's School Nanyuki, St. Christopher's School Karen, Moi Nyeri Complex Primary School, Nyeri Aquatics, Umoja Sharks, and Kiambu Aquatics.
The success of these Kenyan coaches marks a significant milestone in the development of swimming in Kenya.
The advanced training they received is expected to foster a new era of excellence and competitive spirit among Kenyan swimmers.
